The FRAMS Centenary Year event was won by a mixed team representing the club who defeated a valiant FRAMS team by 220 ½ points to 211 ½. That sentence does scant justice to a really enjoyable morning when the weather relented quite quickly and the majority of the event was played in warm sunshine.

18 groups of 4 players contested the full Ryder Cup format – 6 holes of fourballs, 6 holes of foursomes and 6 holes of singles matches – all crammed into one hectic round of golf. Ladies Captain, Rita Griffith-Glover, and the Club Captain, Keith Oliver, graciously accepted the trophy on behalf of the club, thanked the FRAMS for their hospitality and hoped that the event might be repeated next year. Well – they would say that wouldn’t they!

For the record, and the FRAMS self-respect, if the matches had been scored strictly as per the actual international event, the FRAMS would have won by 37 matches to 35. But it wasn’t, so they didn’t!

The FRAMS thoroughly enjoyed the event, which not only provided some challenging golf situations, but also made good social contacts between groups who might otherwise not have met each other.
